Why Hike? A quick google search will list the following benefits of hiking:
Lower Risk of Heart Disease
Improve Blood Pressure & Sugar Levels
Boost Bone Density
Blah...Blah... Bah
Let's be real.... a 20-something-year-old is not worried about those benefits. Most 20-somethings I know hike with friends and use the activity as a social gathering, while others use hiking as a way to get their early-20-something-year-old body back. I hike because it's fun, it's rejuvenating, and it can be challenging. As a naturally adventurous person, I find hiking fun because it allows me to explore new areas and scenery; outside of the hike itself, I get to explore cities nearby on my way to and from the hike. While hiking, I am always amazed at the creation of the Earth and how the bugs, animals, and plants are synced with each other; this appreciation restores an unexplained energy within me and is guaranteed to be a "mood booster" for me. Also, while hiking, challenges do arise, forcing me to use my critical thinking skills; whether that's finding a safe way to scramble down a hill or finding the correct path when I get lost, my mind gets to problem solve in real (sometimes scary) situations.
I genuinely believe you have to try something at least once before you can make an informed decision on whether you do or do not like something, so of course, I would recommend everyone to try hiking. It's a fairly cheap activity you can do by yourself, with your human friends, or your furry friends. Maybe you, too, can receive benefits from hiking that help your mind, body, and soul.
