Malibu, CA

Moderate
Located in Malibu, Ca, this quick hike is worth the drive. The trailhead is located at the Sara Wan Trailhead, directly east of the seafood restaurant, Malibu Seafood Fresh Fish Market & Patio Cafe. Parking in the lot was $12 with a self pay stand. Being that parking on PCH was "free.99," that's were I ended up parking. The entrance is somewhat hidden, luckily there was a group ahead of me that led the way; in front of the loading parking spot the trail begins.
As you walk, there is a fork in the trail, to the left is the trail, to the right is trail that leads back to PCH - go to the left. A few more meters up there is another fork where you decide which way of the loop you want to hike. I went to the left (toward the inner canyon,) this way on my descent down I can enjoy the coastal views.
As you go into the canyon, the noise from PCH starts to disappear. There is s decend and the trail is somewhat maintained in the beginning. When you continue & start going into the switch-backs, the trail becomes narrow and not well maintained. (Watch out for deteriorating parts of the trail.) I would highly suggest wearing long pants & socks; not only is there plants you'll have to brush across, but I passed by 2 snakes, dozen of lizards crossing the trail, and a dead rodent or bunny.
Once you reach the summit, the decent is rather easy. The trail down is much more maintained wider than the trail you took into the canyon. The views were beautiful. Due to the trail being across the street from the beach, I even hung out and stretched on the beach, extending my hiking trip to a hike & beach trip. I would definitely comeback and do this trail again, however, I would probably go out & back on the front part of the loop as I am not fond of snakes.
Things to Keep In Mind:
The trail has no shade
The trail is clear-cut; no other trails connect or overlap with this one.
Watch out for snakes, lizards, & smaller animals
Pros:
Solo Hiker Friendly
Coastal Views
Walking Distance to Beach & Food
Cons:
Overgrown in some areas
No rest spots on the way to summit
